To Lose Sight Of You

Text for the exhibition “Desenfocar l’anècdota” by Nyamnyam, at the Museu de la Garrotxa, Olot (10/02 – 21/04/2024).

Ariadna Rodríguez and Iñaki Álvarez (Nyamnyam) told me one day that they were filming a movie about cows grazing on top of a mountain, free, that they would do an exhibition of the project at the Museu de la Garrotxa and that they would really like me to write a text for them. A text that was like a horizon. I went to the top of one of those mountains and from there I looked closely at the horizon to see if it would inspire me. It happened that I began to hear that the horizon was a voice and that I could read it. I transcribed it all and Iñaki had the fantastic idea of transporting it horizontally to the exhibition hall where he and Ariadna were showing their project, which ended up being called “Blurring the anecdote.”

The voice from the horizon began by saying that

“if you go round and round and round so many times that you get dizzy, then, when you stop, we go up and down in front of you at a fast pace at first, which gradually slows down and we end up being in a single place again, where normally you always find us and forget us. Our story began when a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum was filtered through the calcareous corneas of the first sighted being on the planet. Millions of years ago, a trilobite had developed a pair of eyes; the oldest that humans have been able to find in the realm of marine fossils. Inside the eyeballs of those little animals that lived both in the depths of the sea and in the coastal areas, my ancestor existed, our legend says, in the form of rays of light and bursts of colour.»
