The reused documents: the case of the posters of the Civil War in the Municipal Archive of Torelló
July 2023
Design of the exhibition devices for the exhibition “The reused documents”, in the Municipal Archive of Torelló.
Gemma, from the Municipal Archive of Torelló, contacted me to explain that she had found some documentation folders of the Torelló Anti-Fascist Revolutionary Committee, which had been made using reused paper. In this case, the papers with which the folders had been made were clippings of propaganda posters from the civil war. According to Gemma, “most of these posters were edited by the Generalitat’s Commissariat of Propaganda. A propaganda material that, especially between 1936 and 1937 was distributed by the Republican Generalitat to local governments with the aim of raising awareness and spurring the population in the republican cause”*.
We decided to scan those folders in front and behind, making a digital assembly that consisted of a series of posters, each formed by the different folders that, like pieces of a puzzle, composed a poster.
I took charge of this task of digitizing the posters, composition of the posters, printing and assembling of the exhibition at the Municipal Archive of Torelló, which was inaugurated within the framework of the Local Festival of 2023 and which was left open for a whole year.
