Reflexió
2024
Aluminium transfers for Atlàntida, Osona Performing Arts Centre, Vic, as part of the Artistes en Escena programme.
Within the framework of the Artistes en Escena programme, Atlàntida and ACVic invited me to create an image that would serve for the graph of the new season 24-25 of Atlàntida, around the term “reflection”.
Inspired by the brass plates that cover a large part of the building of the performing arts center, I created some golden transfers that the Atlàntida graphic design team has applied to the elements of the programming of the new season, such as the flyers, posters, applications for the facade and image for the web.
There are questions that can almost only be asked in the artistic field. If they were raised in other sectors, they would probably sound absurd or they would have little interest. So, when I thought about Atlantis, it came to me from the outset that humans are going to see, feel and live theatrical or musical works. Hence some questions arose, such as: What do other forms of existence see and feel when they approach Atlantis? What do the surrounding trees feel? What is the experience of the air that runs through the hallways of the building? What do clouds see?
The proposal is based especially on this last question and speculation about a possible answer: if clouds see something when they fly over Atlantis, when they pass over the gilded brass covering the building, could it be that what they see is their own reflection in a sky of golden tones? And if so, should the clouds be amazed? Should they have the feeling of living an artistic experience, too?
Everything that makes us a reflection of our existence (not only certain materials, but also the traces we leave of the things we do) can lead us to reflect precisely on our reality and the perception we have of the world. They are a look at ourselves from the other side. At the same time, reflections often tell us about invisible relationships between things. The light of the sun touching the water can generate a reflection on a tree trunk that grows further. Thus, they have some mysterious, often inmaterial, condition that escapes us, is ephemeral and speaks of other dimensions less palpable but equally real. These are characteristics that they share with clouds, which symbolically take us to the most spiritual aspects of our being.
To talk about these ideas, we use several derivations of the word “reflection”. We highlight two meanings. On the one hand, the one that refers to the effect of light and sound when reflected on some surface, such as the sky and the clouds on the brass covering of the Atlantis cover. On the other hand, the one that calls the thought that results from the action of reflection, of deepening on some question in detail, such as what art is based on and also what it invites us to.
